Edith Ella Van Sant

Edith Ella (Webb) Van Sant, of Elkton, Florida passed peacefully on February 15, 2024, at the age of 88 after a brief illness. Edith was born and raised in Bridgeton, New Jersey to the late Martin (Dutch) L. Webb and Ella Mae (Donelson) Webb on February 19, 1935. Edith was the wife of the late Theodore Millard Van Sant, her husband of 65 years. Edith trained to be a nurse at Cooper Hospital Nursing School, graduating in 1956 as a Registered Nurse (RN) and winning the award given for Best Pediatric Nurse Graduate. She went on to serve as a nurse in Bridgeton Hospital for 20 years and then at the Cumberland County Juvenile Detention Center and finished her career at the Cumberland County Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Home, retiring in 1989 to Florida where she also acquired her license as a RN. She continued to offer her skills as a nurse in retirement to various organizations such as the Fleet Landing Retirement Home and Vicar’s Landing of Sawgrass. She was the cherished wife of Theodore (Ted) M. Van Sant; devoted mother to Dawn Van Sant Rodeck and her husband Mathew of Satsuma, Florida and Todd Van Sant of Jacksonville, Florida. She was the proud grandmother to Christian Todd Rodeck and his wife Christina of Hemsbach, Germany, August Van Sant Rodeck and his wife Heather of Jacksonville, Florida, Alexis Mary (Rodeck) Villanueva Cruz and her husband Mariano, of Orange Park, Florida, and Logan Van Sant of Jacksonville, Florida. She was the loving sister to Nancy Carole (Webb) Nelson of Walbash, Indiana. Edith was also the Great-Grandmother of two wonderful boys, Marshall and Konrad, and many nieces, nephews and friends that will miss her dearly. While raising her children Edith was active in the First Methodist Church of Bridgeton, teaching Sunday and Bible School. She was active in the Hopewell Schools Parent-Teacher Association, Ranch Hope, Cumberland County Medical Century Auxiliary, was a member of the Red Hat Society, and involved in va rious organizations concerning nursing. Edith enjoyed line dancing, hiking, gardening, traveling with her husband Ted, and was an extensive book reader. Her favorite hobby was doll and doll house collecting and she had an large collection she maintained. Edith also enjoyed the beach and her grandchildren.
