Constance Gillis

Constance Gillis, 89, of Palm Coast, passed away on December 20, 2023 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring. She was born on August 20, 1934 in Jersey City, NJ to the late Edmund and Anna Jocz. Constance met her husband, Robert at a CYO Dance in Nutley, NJ. They got married after Robert was discharged from the Army after the Korean War on August 20, 1955. They started their family in Nutley, NJ and then moved to Freehold, NJ, where they lived with their 5 children for over 40 years. The family enjoyed many activities with their neighbors in the Woodcrest development they lived in, with the children active in various sports and community activities. The family were active members of Saint Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, Freehold, NJ. Connie and Bob spent most of their retirement years snow birding from their home in Jackson, NJ to their home in Palm Coast, FL. They enjoyed what seemed to their children as non-stop social activities with their friends in Palm Coast. They became members of Saint Anastasia Catholic Church in Saint Augustine, FL while in Florida. Connie was an avid Mah Jongg player, enjoying many years playing in Palm Coast. As a member of the Mantanzas Shores Ladies Club and the Red Hat Marjonettes, Connie was active in many charitable events throughout the year. But the true Love of her life was her family. Family gatherings, whether it be a birthday, holiday, or just dinner at Mom & Dad’s, was always orchestrated by Connie, where you were sure to enjoy good cooking and great homemade baked goods. She is survived by her husband, Robert H. Gillis; children, John R. Gillis and his spouse, Patricia Ann Gillis, Middletown, NJ; Kathleen A. McKay and her spouse, David McKay, San Diego, CA, Glenn T. Gillis and his spouse, Kathleen Gillis, Jensen Beach, FL, Michael Gillis, Freehold, NJ, Gregory J. Gillis and his spouse, LiuFeng Lu, Freehold, NJ; grandchildren: Ryan Gillis, Kevin Gillis, and Colleen Gillis step granddaughter: LuLu; sister, Barbara Jocz, Freehold, NJ; brother, Edmund Jocz, Freehold, NJ. and 32 Nieces and nephews. A funeral mass will be held at 9am on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at St. Anastasia Catholic Church with Father Tim Lindenfelser officiation. We’d like to change that to “In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a donation to the “Arthritis Foundation”, info.arthritis.org St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
