Bernice V. Roditis

Bernice Roditis, age 87, of St. Augustine, passed away on December 4, 2023 at The Symphony at St. Augustine. She was born on January 31, 1936 in Waterbury, Connecticut to the late Stanley and Catherine Taranovich. She grew up in Naugatuck, CT and graduated from Naugatuck High School. In 1954 she married Robert Roditis shortly after which they moved to Prospect Connecticut in 1957. Bernice worked at Uniroyal Rubber Company and Peter Paul Cadbury Co. until moving to St. Augustine in 1979. They established Island Craft where they both worked for several years. Bernice then joined V.A.W of America as a computer operator until her retirement in1999. Bernice was a member of many organizations including, St. Anastasia Catholic Church, St. Augustine Piecemakers and Eland among others. She was a giving person who spent a good portion of her time volunteering and helping her community. Some examples of her selfless contributions are: volunteering at the Shores Fire Department and the Girl Scouts of America. After retiring she devoted even more time volunteering. She helped out at The St. Gerard House, JCT public TV auctions and even the Super Bowl event in Jacksonville. Bernice was an avid football fan and loved the Jacksonville Jaguars. She was one of the original season ticket holders for the Jaguars. She loved going to the games with her family. Bernice had a true zest for life, she loved traveling and just loved life itself. More than anything she enjoyed being with her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Mohammed Mirzai; grandson Mike Mirzai and great grandchildren, Charlotte and Penny Mirzai, Grayson Cooke, Dawson Cooke and Colton Varhola. She was preceded in death by her husband, and the love of her life, Robert J. Roditis; parents, Stanley and Catherine Taranovich; brothers, Edwin Taranovich, Richard Taranovich, Raymond Shepack and Francis Palladino.. A memorial mass will be held on the anniversary of her birth, January 31, 2024, at 9am, at St. Anastasia Catholic Church on the Island with inurnment to follow at San Lorenzo Catholic Cemetery.
