Alexandra Marie Landis August 10, 1987 - June 28, 2015 On 10 August 1987, the most beautiful, cherubic child, Alexandra Marie was delivered to her parents Karen Costeira Landis and her husband, Lance Jay Landis. Oh, she was an angel to behold. Ringlets of golden curls, eyes like chocolate drops. No one could know she would grace the earth for 27 short years, leaving us to shake our heads and wonder where the righteousness in this world has gonebut what we do know is that while she was present among us, nuggets of gold about how to live with zest, how to smile, how to accept, how to love and how to embrace the challenges that life puts in front of us were shared with every single person she ever met. Alex Landis took flight last Friday 26 June 2015 following a lifelong summons to SMA, a neuromuscular disease. During her 27 years in this realm, she accomplished far more than most could ever dream. After graduating from the University of Florida with honors, she started two highly successful marketing firms, became Treasurer and Board Member of NMD United, a 501-3c organization dedicated to the successful and independent living of those afflicted with neuromuscular disabilities that she helped to build from the ground up. At the pinnacle of those busy activities, she managed to build her own home, from lot selection to design to construction oversight. Never once did a word of despair, or " I can't" escape from her lips. When Alex was in early grade school, a teacher gave the assignment that the children should make of a list of three things they wish for. Most, as you would imagine, came back with a list of candy or toys or typical childhood desires. Alex came to school with an empty list. She was such a happy and fulfilled child that, despite life in a wheelchair, she could not think of something to wish for. She was happy to simply "be". It is our wish that everyone will keep her happiness in their heart. In addition to her parents, leaving behind to recall such beautiful memories are her sisters Victoria "Tori" Landis and Katherine "Kat" Landis, her maternal grandparents, Jim and Alice Costeira, and a host of loving extended family members, including cousins, aunts and uncles throughout the United States. Waiting to welcome her on the other side were her paternal grandparents, Betts and Veke Landis. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, 3 July 2015, at Anastasia Baptist Church, followed by a Life Celebration at the Riverview Club, St Augustine Shores. Friends and Family are invited to attend both remembrances.
