Dolores May Appleby

Dolores M. Appleby ,age 79 was killed in a horrific automobile accident in St Augustine, FL on Wednesday Sept. 2. By a hit and run driver. Dee, as she is known to all her friends and loved ones, was a lifelong resident of New Britain, CT. Plagued by recent poor health, Dee moved to Florida, in July of this year.to be cared for, namely, by her deceased brother, Robert J. Appleby's, extended family, sister in law, Phyllis Appleby, (whom was so much more than that to Dee), and her children.Dee was living with her niece, Linda Dobson, whom was very seriously injured in said accident, requiring multiple surgeries, and a full body cast. Thankfully she is expected to recover. Dolores was pre-deceased by her father, George H. Appleby; mother, Helen E. Appleby;brother, Robert J Appleby, and sister,Nancy G.Lusitani. She leaves behind, brother, George Appleby, of Lady Lake, FL.; nieces, Kathleen Bresee,Carolyn Piazza, Linda Dobson; nephew, Robert Appleby; her sister, Nancy's family,husband ,Anthony Luscitani, nieces, Denise Tabazewski, Doreen Carrillo, nephews, Anthony Jr., Marc and David Lusitani. Her brother's children, Christine Cannon, Susan Ventura,George Jr. and Patrick Appleby. Cousins from the Kuzia clan, Joanne Silveri, Joe, and Ron Kuzia. (much thanks for your help at the house Ron, and Helena Kuzia for being there for Dee) While Dee, never married, she was like a mother to all her nieces,nephews,and all of their children. In our family, when you heard,"Aunt Dee", you also felt the love and respect associated with that name.Her unconditional love and thoughtfulness will not be soon forgotten. Dee loved to entertain, and her "Deck"was the scene of many,many cook-outs, (Kmart Girls), and family celebrations. Cards were a passion with Dee, though she seldom won, there were about 20 years of "Shanghai" in her kitchen, always attended by her best friends, Gail and Armand Daigle. The games were often wild and heated, but when the desserts came out, the love returned. Dee worked for 45 years at the Cromwell Kmart and upon retiring, worked as a clerk in Plainville's Big Y. A very special thanks goes out to, Denise, Kate, Linda and George Jr. for their, untold hours and devotion spent in getting Dee to Florida. Dee had a very hard time leaving 107 Penn. Ave. with all it's great memories, but with the love she felt and received in Florida, Dee left this world a happy person. Because of the Pandemic, no plans have been made concerning her passing.
