Abner Eugene Green

Abner Eugene Green, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 29, 2018 at Community Hospice in Jacksonville, FL. Abner retired from almost 21 years of service in the Air Force and then continued working as a civil servant at Robins Air Force Base for another 21 years, serving our country for a total of 42 years. After retirement, Abner and his wife, Clara, relocated to St. Augustine, FL where he worked with his son, Jeff in Jeff’s refrigeration business. After several years, they returned to middle Georgia, where they had raised their 7 children. Due to health reasons, Abner and Clara relocated to Florida once again, to be close to their children. Abner loved spending time with his family, in any capacity. He enjoyed feeding the ducks at Bartram Lakes and going on outings with his friends. Abner was deeply committed to his wife, who has advanced Alzheimer’s. He visited her often, feeding her lunch, bringing her flowers and chocolate bars. He loved researching and collecting unique coins, Georgia football and watching Tiger Woods play golf. Abner is survived by his wife of 66 years, Clara Green (Jones), daughter Nina Rodenroth (Dave) of Keystone Heights, FL; son Abner Green, Jr. of Warner Robins, GA; daughter Barbara Stone (Randy) of Kathleen, GA; son Jeffrey Green (deceased) (Lisa) of St. Augustine, FL; daughter Phyllis Green of The Villages, FL; daughter Shirley Cooley (Len) of Indianapolis, IN; son Charles ‘Chuck’ Green of Warner Robins, GA; ‘sister’ Mildred Hunter of Boca Raton, FL and ‘brother’ Ray Jones of Akron, OH. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, plus many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Abner is pre-deceased by his parents, Karl and Nina Green, his sister Mary Giles; brother Richard Green (Mary); brother William Green and son Jeffrey Green. Abner was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother-in-law and will be missed greatly. A memorial service, with full Military Honors, will be held at St. John’s Family Funeral Home, 385 SR 207, St. Augustine, FL on Saturday, November 10th, 2018 at 11:00AM, ET. Interment at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL will be held at a later date. St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
